Youth Sunday School Lesson: Covenant Keepers

How can I deepen my understanding of covenants?

I love that this month is all about Ordinances and Covenants, it's so important for the youth to understand and grow their knowledge of the covenants they have and will make with the Lord.

When we obtain any blessing from God, it is by obedience to that law upon which it is predicated.

To start I began the lesson by asking what is a covenant and we read the definition in True to the Faith.  We then discussed some covenants we make and read the different scriptures in the outline to go along with them. We also created a graph on the board with three different sections:  covenants, we promise, and His promises.  We then went in to detail about each of these things for specific covenants.

At baptism we covenant to serve the Lord and keep His commandments.  When we partake of the sacrament, we renew that covenant and declare our willingness to take upon ourselves the name of Jesus Christ.  Thereby we are adopted as His sons and daughters and are known as brothers and sisters.  He is the father of our new life.  Ultimately, in the holy temple, we may become joint heirs to the blessings of an eternal family, as once promised to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and their posterity.  Thus celestial marriage is the covenant of exaltation.  -Russell M. Nelson

We also talked about missionaries and how they help others understand and encourage them to keep their covenants.  I mentioned that even though we aren't full time missionaries right now we can be member missionaries and help ourselves and others learn and keep covenants.

Make, keep, deepen understanding and honor covenants made.

When we realize that we are children of the covenant, we know who we are and what God expects of us.  His law is written in our hearts.  He is our God and we are His people.  Committed children of the covenant remain steadfast, even in the midst of adversity...The greatest compliment that can be earned here in this life is to be known as a covenant keeper.  The rewards for a covenant keeper will be realized both here and hereafter.  Scripture declares that "ye should consider on the blessed and happy state of those that keep the commandments of God.  For behold, they are blessed in all things, ...and if they hold out faithful to the end they are received into heaven and dwell with God in a state of never-ending happiness. -Russell M. Nelson

Doesn't that sound amazing?!  So I wanted to make a little reminder for them to take home and remember this lesson and to deepen their understanding of covenants.
I hope they always strive to be covenant keepers!

This Covenant Keeper Kit Kat can be attached to a large Kit Kat or even staple a mini Kit Kat to it like I did for my class.  Perfect for any lesson about covenants or even a little baptism gift.
