Youth Sunday School Lesson: Women and Priesthood Holders

How do women and priesthood holders work together to build the kingdom of God?

I feel like I usually hear lessons based strongly on men in the priesthood or remembering women and the priesthood.  I love that this lesson was all about them working together to build the kingdom of God.

There is strength and great capacity in the women of this Church.  There is leadership and direction, a certain spirit of independence, and yet great satisfaction in being a part of this, the Lord's kingdom, and of working hand in hand with the priesthood to move it forward.  -Gordon B. Hinckley

We talked about how we see men and women working together in wards, stakes and especially families.  And discussed how each of us has something to contribute, different strengths, talents and gifts.  We also talked about how we can apply this in our lives now whether it be church, callings, classes, and at school.

I then wanted to focus on families and the role husband and wife/father and mother play in God's Eternal plan.  We read paragraphs 6 and 7 in The Family- A Proclamation, and talked about the specific things that stood out to them, and what they can do now to have the kind of family relationships described.

I love writing and sending cards, especially thank you notes!  We had a homecoming yesterday where the missionary said that showing appreciation was a spiritual gift, it shows your gratitude for the person you are giving thanks to.  People need to hear how thankful we are for them.  Especially our family members!  And parents are at the very top of that list.  The last part of the class I had the youth write notes to their mom or dad or both and tell them how much they love and appreciate all they do for them. I love finding cards in the dollar bins at Target-they were perfect to use for this activity.

I loved seeing the youth take their time to think and really appreciate their parents and all they do to work together to make their families lives better!

To remind the youth that women and priesthood holders work together to BUILD the kingdom of God, I gave them a little pail of lego candies.  I loved seeing the reaction of the young men when they saw these.  They loved building and eating them!  I found the little pails at Dollar Tree and the lego candy at Winco.

If I didn't have the little white pails already I would have used these cute buckets!

Youth Sunday School Lesson: Following Counsel from Priesthood Leaders

Why is it important to follow the counsel given by priesthood leaders?

Recently I gave this lesson to our cute youth Sunday School kids.  I'm not joking it was one of the easiest lessons to pull together thanks to a couple really easy helps.

We read D&C 1:38 and D&C 21:4-5 to learn more about how the Lord speaks through His servants.  We then discussed specific counsel the youth have received from a bishop, stake president or priesthood leader; and the blessings they have received from following their counsel.

We then broke up into two groups and read "Two Lines of Communication" by Dallin H. Oaks. One group read about the personal line and the other read about the priesthood line.  I had the youth write on the board what stuck out to them while studying about each line.  We then read section three together and discussed how it's important to be aware of both of these lines of communication so we can be better connected to our Heavenly Father.

So of course I had to give something to help them remember how priesthood power blesses their lives, and I found the perfect printout at Older and Wisor HERE!  I've used this print out several times and each time I think it's just the cutest.  Find the free printable on her blog!

Bedtime Beauty Routine

For as long as I can remember I have loved getting ready for bed and well, really sleeping!   Just ask my family and my cute husband.  If I don't get a good nights sleep I'm a total bear in the morning!  I've found that I can do a few things the night before to help me be the nice person I hope to be and get that great sleep I need.  I find it so refreshing to calm down after a busy day with a few nightly rituals that help me de-stress, relax and get ready for some beauty sleep. So when I was inspired by Leesa a company that their mission is to help people get a great sleep, to share my own bedtime beauty routine I couldn't pass up the opportunity!

I've linked to all of the products I use under each picture for easy access if you're interested!

To start I always brush my teeth and floss so I can move on to the fun stuff quickly.  I then wipe off all of my makeup with a face wipe, my favorite kind at the moment can be found at Costco.  After I've got all my makeup off I double cleanse to help my skin get super clean.  I start with the gentle Cetaphil cleanser and follow that up with the Ole Henricksen one shown above.

Next comes my favorite part!  I love face masks so I have quite a collection.  I love to see what my skin is in need of that day and choose accordingly.  As you can probably tell my favorites are probably the Origins Clear Improvements or Origins Out of Trouble because they are so purifying and make my skin feel so clean.

Call me crazy, but after I take my first mask off I apply a sheet mask.  I love to prep my skin to feel hydrated for the night ahead.  I'm totally loving these masks by Tonymoly right now, and I mean $10 for a pack of 11 sheet masks!? That just can't be beat!

While my skin is soaking in all those great ingredients from the sheet mask I usually hop into the bath tub.  When I am really pampering myself I usually drop a LUSH bath bomb in, but on normal nights I usually just put a couple of pumps of my normal body wash in the bath.  It gives the bath a clean, fresh scent and adds some bubbles!

Once I get out of the bath I tend to do either of these next steps.  If I had a sheet mask I usually press the remaining product from the sheet mask packets on my face and neck then let it soak into the skin for the rest of the night and move on to the next step, but if I didn't have a sheet mask that night I follow up with these products to prep my skin for bed.

Pregnancy acne is a real thing people and boy am I struggling!  I have been trying out this Tea Tree Oil and it seems to work sometimes but if you have any tips or tricks send them my way!!

I am such a total fan of eye cream these days!  As you can probably tell loads of these are sample sizes-thank you beauty boxes, I love to get to try new products all the time!

For the last step I put my hair in a low, loose side braid because I don't even want to deal with the mess of tangles if I left my hair free in the night, and to keep it out of my face.  I then apply some lip balm, hand cream, and occasionally foot cream. This is best when my skin is dry and chapped.  By this time I'm usually feeling super relaxed and ready for some amazing sleep!

I'd love to hear a favorite step of your own bed time beauty routine!

Youth Sunday School Lesson: Reverence and Revelation

How does reverence help me receive revelation?

Last year I gave the same lesson (find it HERE) and thought for a second I could use the same lesson plan and handouts, but that would have been way too easy!  I wanted to update and make some new ones with a new theme.

So this time around I wanted to focus on how God communicates to us individually. We focused on how it's a still small voice, not loud and overbearing.  We also discussed the difference between sacred things and things of the world.

I wanted the youth to know that we get to choose if we are being reverent and we can invite revelation in our lives by doing so.  We choose if we are inviting or pushing away the Spirit and revelation.  So of course I had to pair this handout with some gum!  I found these perfectly small packs at Dollar Tree.  If you want to use the printable I made you can find it down below and it fits them perfectly!

June Visiting Teaching Handout Ideas

Priesthood Power through Keeping Covenants

This months message is about finding the power of the priesthood through keeping our covenants.

I love the quote from Elder  Neil L. Andersen that says, "'Live every hour' blessed by the strength of priesthood power,' whatever our circumstance."  We can always be striving to keep our covenants-any time of the day or night!

So I thought of all things clock related!  There are the cutest little clocks sold at IKEA that would be perfect for a decoration.

Or even a cute little kitchen timer from Walmart!

If the little handout is not your jam the calendar this month is pretty adorable too, if I do say so myself.  At the end of this post you can find the round clock tags, the tags that match the calendars and the calendars that fit perfectly into the IKEA frames or on the fridge.

June would be a perfect month for a cute new summer magnet, but I didn't get around to that. Sorry! :/

I think my favorite is this Ding Dong handout!  Attach the cute little clock printable and you are set.  And you've got some extra Ding Dongs for yourself! :)

Any cute clock decoration or circle treat would work!

Donut Day and Special Announcement

In honor of National Donut Day I wanted to share a little secret we've been keeping...

If you know Dallin and I, you probably know how big of a deal donuts are to us.  One of our first dates Dallin drove from Sandy to Provo just so we could get free donuts and spend the drive together.  Lots of donut dates after, he proposed and we had donuts for dessert.  We even served the fanciest of donuts at our wedding.  So it just felt natural to share our exciting news with even more donuts! And to say that we love something more than donuts-it's got to be pretty amazing! :)

We told our families with boxes of donuts from Harmon's, the Dunford Bakery and letter donuts from the Provo Bakery!

We are thrilled to have little Baby Strong come in December!
