Follow the Prophet Primary/ FHE Lesson

I'll be honest I haven't been the best about home church.  Especially when it comes to primary for my little Liv!  One of my goals this year is to make home church, primary lessons and FHE a priority!

My sister and I decided to make a primary/FHE lesson each week!  

This last week in Come Follow Me-For Primary we focused on Following the Prophet, specifically on Doctrine and Covenants 1.

I made cute little handouts and treats for each child.  Rice Krispie treat traffic lights with a chocolate topping and red, yellow and green skittles on top.  I cut them to be exactly the right size.  I place them on a cupcake liner and then in a cellophane bag.  Tied it with a few ribbons and attached the little note to tie into the lesson.  I know how to do this part! haha

Working with Primary age kids I don't know how to do so well.  Enter Brittany!  The mastermind of Primary!  She use to be a Kindergarten teacher, currently a preschool teacher and has had many callings in the primary!  She knows what she's doing here!

Us adults cut and glued road warning signs on large popsicle sticks.  We discussed about how each of them help warn drivers on the road.  We had a picture of President Nelson, cut out a Prophet Match Game and Brittany also created a little Follow the Prophet Maze!  I'm so excited Brittany thought of a Come Follow me Journal that we can keep all of our lessons in all year long!  

Liv loved it too!  In case your TOTALLY oblivious like me.  Here's what we did for the scheduling!  

Sunday-short introductory lesson, Liv is 3 and loves to talk, we didn't cover much and that's ok!  I talked about how we need to follow warning signs from the Prophet just like we need to follow warning signs on the road.  And how these warning signs keep us safe and happy!  We sang a few songs:  Jesus wants me for a Sunbeam, Once there was a Snowman, I am a Child of God, and Follow the Prophet; then I introduced the topic.  We played the prophet Match Game and then we watched Sacrament Meeting on Zoom while Liv ate her lunch.  

On Monday night = Family Home Evening, we talked about the same things we did on Sunday and then did all the activities.  We played the Prophet Match Game, a Follow the Prophet game-where you hide the picture of the prophet and then give the child clues to where the Prophet is, like saying if they are getting warm/cold.  Liv colored her Come Follow Me front page and did the Follow the Prophet maze.  We talked about the signs again and watched THIS video, I added that we need to follow the warning signs from the Prophet just as we need to follow the warning signs in the scriptures.  Liv had her treat and loved every minute of it all!

I've learned already to keep it as simple and straight forward as possible!

I've also learned that Liv loved every minute we were "doing church" together and it is completely worth it!

So here's to hoping for many more lessons in 2021!

Manners Matter Feast

My Mom is seriously the cutest, most creative lady I know.  If you've followed this blog for any amount of time you probably already know that.

She is currently serving as an Activity Day Leader in her ward and of course rocking it.  She just had the most adorable Manners Matter Feast and I'm so thrilled she's letting me share all the details.  This doesn't just have to be for Activity Days either, my older sister is the Primary President in her ward and was going to do a few of these things with her Primary, it would also make a perfect and easy family night leading up to Thanksgiving!

She started her Manners Matter Feast with a story to introduce the topic.  We couldn't find one we liked and that fit the theme and purpose of the activity so I made one up!  You can download the story at the bottom of THIS post.  She blew up the turkey we were using and used colored paper for the different feathers, and added the feathers along with telling the story.

The story is all about a turkey named Maggie that finds out how manners make life more colorful. 

She gets a new colored feather every time she masters a manner.  To go along with the story I made a worksheet that they could hang in their room to remember what manners they should be working on.

Here's one I made for an example.  They could color the feathers the different colors they liked and add the specific manners they need to work on, on each feather. 

Hopefully reminding them that manners really do matter!

My mom said this was a huge hit and the girls loved working on this page.

My mom found the cutest, colorful feather suckers that fit perfectly in her little turkey stand.

 

I made a tag to remind them of the story when they took home their little treat.  You can find the free download for these cute little tags at the end of this post!

Next came learning some table manners. 

She found the cute place mats and Manners Matter packet at Dating Divas!

She also found the cute little turkey treat holders on Etsy from Jessicas Prints HERE!

She filled these cute turkeys with a fun fall mix of marshmallows, candy corn, M&M's, Honey Nut Cheerios, pretzels, and Swedish Fish.

She went over some Table Manners Do's and Don'ts to prep the girls for their feast ahead.  She found this sheet from a church idea book that she has had for years.  If you know where it came from please let me know so I can give credit where credit is due!

My mom even made the cutest paper turkey full of popcorn!  She told them she had been working in the kitchen and cooking it all morning! ;)



Then to setting the table!  My mom already had it set as pictured above.  She then taught the girls how to set the table-perfect for Thanksgiving Day prep!

Then came eating!  She had mini pudding cups, turkey slices, rolls, veggies, fruit, chocolate covered popcorn, and chocolate rice krispy treats with a white chocolate drizzle.  We tried to stick with either brown or colorful foods to go along with the theme!  

We can't quit this super easy and addicting white chocolate popcorn!  I tossed in some regular M&M's to add that pop of color!  Find the recipe HERE!

The girls were told to use their manners while having their feast. 

The girls absolutely loved it and learned so much about manners.  At the end of the activity they passed out the feather suckers (find more about those HERE) and gave back the worksheets they had done earlier.

Family Fun Night!

This past weekend we got together with Brittany's family to have a Family Fun Night!  Full of fun, food and of course family!  I count down the days till I can get together with my family so when I was inspired by the Christian movie service Pure Flix to make my ideal family night, it was just the excuse I needed to throw something together.

We started the night with some mini pizzas!  I love the easy idea of using a French bread loaf and having personalized mini pizzas.  And these yellow peppers are seriously a game changer.

After pizza, the kids played a cute little game I use to play with my friends when I was younger.  We would pretend we were acting out a movie and the person that was the "Director" would be able to say rewind, fast forward, play, scene select and mute.  The people playing in the movie would have to act out whatever the Director said.  The kids thought this was hilarious!  Especially mute, and I think all of us adults liked that one the most too!

They also loved being the Director and having us adults act out the different movies they thought of.  It was pretty adorable to see.

Next up treats!

I made a DIY popcorn bowl station.  Everyone could grab a bowl of popcorn and add their favorite candies.  We chose everyone's favorite candies and perfect mix-ins.  I think the crowd favorites were Milk Duds and Junior Mints!

I mean who wouldn't want a bowl that looks like this! 

You can't watch a movie without a bowl of popcorn!

And for the main event we watched some good old VeggieTales! 

Even if we didn't decide on VeggieTales it was so cool to see so many clean and worry free movies and TV shows that are family friendly.  I love never having to worry about language or content, Pure Flix made it such a breeze-no matter what you choose from them it is always a good fit for everyone.

And it was so fun to see movies that I've seen or have always wanted to see!  When my sister and I saw one of our favorite movies Belle and the Beast we were pretty excited too! It's a modern day take on Beauty and the Beast and it is the perfect mix of romance, comedy and drama-all while being clean. 

We finished the night with some soda floats!  We love mixing it up other then always having the classic rootbeer float.  The crowd favorite was the orange soda float, it tastes so good!
